There is a storm ahead - John's imprisonment

I've had a few encounters this week that have been very encouraging, and heard a couple things that are not. I'm looking out the window to the west and I see dark clouds. I think there may be a storm close by.

We don't have a lot of verses in the Bible on John the Baptist. But for all the verses we do have there seems to be just one really calm time in his life (Matthew 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-11, Luke 3:21-22 and indirectly in John 1:29-34). These are all about the same event.

But for most of John's life (even before his birth) there was turmoil. Uncertainty. I see so much of that in todays world. I'd like us to spend some time discussing a very simple question, "why did John die in such an unusual way". Our text will be from Matthew 14:1-12, Mark 6:14-29 and Luke 9:7-9, again, the same story from different views.

Are we taking a stand? Any stand?

See you tomorrow!
