Uncertainty

Last week we discussed Egypt and we saw how the Israelites, even though they had been saved from the drought, found themselves in a land that wasn't theirs (see Gen 15:13-14). The new king had forgotten Joseph and was trying everything he could to control the perceived threat of so many people. It's here (Exodus chapter 2) that we are introduced to Moses. We'll see in this chapter God's somewhat ironic plan to restore his people and to bring them back, once again, into his covenant. Remember, 400 years have passed, we're in a new land, we're in a new time, and we've grown accustomed to and accepted many of the cultural practices around us, sound familiar?

As we study chapter 2, I want us to pivot just a little and use verse 14 and 15 to contemplate what might be in Moses thoughts. Notice what is being said to Moses (by the Israelite) in verse 14. Now read verse 15. "Everyone knows, everyone is against me." We understand why Moses fled and we also know that God will use these events to prepare him, but I wonder if Moses knew this? What was his state of mind, his thought process? At this point did he really have a true concept of God? Or was God just something he had heard about as he no doubt had been exposed to all the Egyptian gods.

Rejection, isolation, uncertainty. We still have all these today, perhaps even more. Our society seems to be constantly on a tipping point, on edge, in a pressure cooker with the little hand pressing far to the right. We have rampant drug use, depression, anxiety these days. Let's dig into these just a little and see if we can find a light at the end of the tunnel.

Also, I have kind of a weird devotional in mind (ever seen a hockey player smile) and it really wasn't until I typed the previous paragraph that I saw how it connected.

See ya tomorrow!!
