Egypt

When you think of Egypt, what is the first thing you think of? Sand? Pyramids? The Sphinx? Do you think about bricks, or the Nile, or their gods? Why were so many magnificent things buried in the pyramids? What about the Khufu ship, isn't that fascinating as strange as it is! The thing is, Egypt was one of the first "major" ancient civilizations to have the things we think of as a "modern" civilization. It was and still is mind boggling.

This is the culture that the Israelites find themselves in when we are introduced to Moses in Exodus 1 and 2. No doubt the Israelites were beginning to question God as centuries pass and they find themselves in a land that turns ever more hostile. Everything gets harder. Everything seems to be against them. Well, maybe not everything.

As I read chapters 1 and 2, I wonder if we often feel like Moses. Kinda here, kinda there. Not sure who we are supposed to be. Is he an Israelite or an Egyptian? But one thing is clear, as with Joseph, it is the sometimes uncertainty and the uncomfortable process that provides exactly the foundation that he will need once he is called.

For some reason when I read chapter 2 verse 4, then verse 7 it just gives hope. I'm not really sure I had ever noticed that!

See you tomorrow.
