Well that's a strange title. It's almost an oxymoron. I love discussions about where we are, came from, are going, what has shaped us, how different things are, perspectives. So this week should be fun!
If you get the Alabama Baptist this week's issue has an article on pages 10-11 about a new technology ChatGPT. It's an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based program that is changing the world. It's affecting you even if you don't realize it.
As the starting point for our discussions let's read Matthew 12:1-8, the story of Jesus disciples being called out by the Pharisees for plucking, preparing and eating corn on the sabbath (see Lev 23:3). The questions I hope we get into here are things like:
Was this wrong?
Was it immoral?
Was it sin?
If any of these were true 2000 years ago, are they still true today?
So back to ChatGPT, if it helps me write a better essay to improve my grade, should I use it? What if it helps me write better computer code to solve a problem my company needs, should I use it? If I could profit from it, if it did the work and I get a raise or a bonus because of that, should I take it? Is it moral??
Morality can also refer to the goodness or righteousness of a person's character or actions, and it is often used as a measure of an individual's ethical behavior. However, the definition of what is considered moral or ethical can vary greatly across cultures and historical periods, and people may hold very different beliefs about what constitutes moral behavior.
I'm not really sure what direction this study will go so come ready to have some fun!
